Dear New Haven Ballet Family and Friends,

Tax Day is behind us and summer is on the way—it’s time to celebrate! Now is the time to take stock, to stretch and expand, to enjoy the pleasures that come with the spring. Among the pleasures for schoolchildren in the Greater New Haven area is the chance to show off what they’ve learned. At New Haven Ballet (NHB) this means dancing! This week we have enjoyed our first Parent Observation Week and in a few weeks NHB will be offering two extraordinary performances. On May 19 our free DanceAir student performance will celebrate the second-graders from our in- and after-school ballet program as they show off what they’ve learned in weeks of ballet training, along with a performance by some of our advanced students—showing off what they’ve learned. On May 27, NHB will proudly present Coppélia, at the Shubert Theater. This classic ballet is one of the most beloved in the repertory. With new costumes and sets, it will showcase our gifted student dancers in the enchanting tale of an inventor and his magical doll. The show will also feature premiers of two works that will be accompanied by the Neighborhood Music Premier Quartet and Music Haven’s Pomegranates Quartet, two New Haven–based student groups. And the differently abled dancers in our Shared Ability program will join our advanced students onstage in a special performance.

For NHB students, the learning—and the joy—of dance don’t stop during the summer. NHB’s summer study program offers students at all levels a wide range of classes in a variety of dance styles from a first-class faculty and guest artists. We are also proud to launch a one-week sleep-away ballet intensive at Choate Rosemary Hall for advanced students. And our Open Division classes offer recreational dancers a chance to channel their inner dancer.

All these programs are possible only because of you, our NHB family and friends, and your generous support. This May 3 and 4, you’ll have an opportunity to show that support during the Great Give, the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven’s 36-hour fundraising extravaganza that every year brings much-needed funding to worthy nonprofits. Every dollar raised in the Great Give makes matching funds available, and every dollar helps keep NHB dancers on their toes. Please, won’t you help? A donation of any amount, however, small, can go a long way. Thank you.

Great Give: 8:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 3, to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 4. Early Giving is Open. Donations made early will count towards the total amount but will not be included in special prizes.

New Haven Ballet is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
